ARCHBISHOP O’SHEA
BRIEF VISIT TO FIJI From Our Own Correspondent SUVA, July 12. On his return from Samoa, where he has been attending the jubilee of the Bishop of Samoa, the Most Reverend Archbishop O’Shea, Archbishop of Wellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand, is paying a brief visit to Fiji. He was accompanied from Samoa by the Bishop of Fiji, the Most Rev. Bishop Foley, and Lieutenant-Colonel the Rt. Rev. Monsignor Connelly, senior Roman Catholic Chaplain of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. Last Sunday morning, Archbishop O’Shea celebrated Mass, and ’ later he received the Roman Catholic Indians of Suva. There was also a large congregation in the evening when he preached and gave Pontifical Benediction erf the Blessed Sacrament. On Monday, Bishop Foley gave a reception in the Town Hall in honour of Archbishop O’Shea, which was attended by his Excellency the Governor and Lady Grantham. Among those present were the Most Rev. Dr. Aubin, S.M., Bishop of the Solomons, the Rt. Rev. L. S. Kempthorne, Anglican Bishop in Polynesia, the Rev. W, Green, chairman of the Methodist Mission in Fiji, members of the Executive and Legislative Councils, military, naval, and air commanders, heads of Government departments, members of the Consular Corps, and representatives of the banks and business houses.
Last Tuesday the Archbishop visited Makogai Leper Hospital, and in the evening he attended a dinner given in his honour by the Roman Catholic laymen of Suva. A dinner to the visiting prelates was also given at Government House. .
