UNRRA AND CLOTHING
Sir,—May I support correspondents ' who criticise the schemes which I UNRRA is setting afoot for European i relief. Sending overseas 101b packets |of wool in greaseproof paper (imposjsible to press into bales), and collect- ■ ing patched and worn clothes is not the answer to clothing the naked millions of Europe. If this is the best UNRRA can do it had better close down. Red Cross, the Galway Guilds, aiid all women's organisations have ! been doing this work systematically ' ever since Finland and Russia were at : war. and they intend to cany on. But this type of relief is only a drop in the ocean. Let the Government, which is behind UNRRA. do as M. G. Townend urges, and switch over its machinery to making clothing and blankets for the devastated countries of the world and thev wilf show that thev intend to spend the £2.000.W0 voted to UNRRA on real relief.—Yours, etc., D.A. ! July 16. 1945.
