THE NEXT GOVERNOR-GENERAL
Sir,—Mr P. G. Connolly (Government, Dunedin West) suggested in Parliament that Mr Jordan, High Commissioner in London, should be our. next Governor-General, How extraordinarily decent of him! I myself have never found fault with the King’s selection of our Governors-General. His Majesty, and George V before him, have always selected capable and competent peers and knights, with education and experience, to undertake such an important responsibility. And now Mr Connolly proposes Mr Jordan, who, being a New Zealander, has strong political views. A Governor-General must be completely unbiased, for he can prevent legislation against the will of the people being introduced by dissolving Parliament and calling for another election. With a Labour Government and Governor-General we would become an oligarchy. I am *ure His Majesty can appoint a worthy successor to our present excellent GovernorGeneral without Mr Connolly’s help.— Yours, etc., „ „„ VIVE LE ROI. July 9. 1945.
