JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
INCREASED MEMBERSHIP “The Junior Chamber’s first year has been a year of progress, not only, in building up a large and sound membership but in successfully undertaking several worth-while projects, said Mr p. B. Watts, chairman, at the monthly. meeting of the Canterbury Junior Chamber of Commerce yesterday. ■ ;In June last the Junior Chamber started off with a membership of JO, Which in, 12 months had risen to 230. The active study groups formed included retailers, civic affairs, manufacturers, taxation, blood transfusion, and public speaking, and a, gymnasium group had also been formed. Hie chamber had successfully organised and handled the Family Day in 1944 and 1945, which were held m conjunction with the raising of the War loans. A patriotic ball for the Nursing Services candidate had resulted fa £l6O being raised. : At the request of the Development and Expansion of the Christchurch City Council the Junior Chamber had undertaken the production of a booklet on Christchurch. Through the efforts of members, the sum o! £ISOO had been subscribed by the business community towards the production of this booklet Recently an anonymous enthusiast of the Canterbury Junior Chamberhad given £2OO to be administered by this organisation and to be devoted to some worthy cause.
