, ♦_ VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 21. Her Excellency Lady Newall returned to Wellington this afternoon from Dunedin. The Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb), who is at present a patiem in Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, is now improving in health, according to a statement made in Wellington yesterday by the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple).—(P.A.) Mr G. R. Macdonald has been appointed a representative of wool growers on the New Zealand Wool Board in succession to the late Mr H. B. S. Johnstone.—(F.O.P.R.) A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of Mr J. S. Barnett was carried at a meeting of the Waimairi County Council last evening. Appreciation of the work of Mr J. W. Hadfield in the interests of linen flax production in New Zealand and his willing co-operation with the growers was expressed at a recent meeting of the linen Flax Growers’ Central Advisory Committee. Mr B. J. Jacobs was re-elected unopposed as Dominion president of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association at the annual conference in Wellington yesterday. Mr C. O. Bell was re-elected vice-president.—(P.A.) The appointment of Mr Ross P. Fraser as Director of the Internal Marketing Division was announced by the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. B. Roberts) yesterday. The first director of the division was Mr Frank Picot. In 1941 Mr Picot was attached to the Ministry of Supply. Mr Fraser was appointed acting-director at the same time, and he has remained in that position since then.—(P.A.) Royal New Zealand Ar Force Headquarters in London have been advised by the Air Ministry that Wing Commander William Victor CrawfordCompton, D.S.O. and Bar, D.F.C. and Bar, one of New Zealand’s best known pilots in the European theatre, has been awarded a permanent commission in the Royal Air Force. He is at present in New Zealand. —(R.N.Z.A.F. Official News Service.) The Rev. M. L. Wiggins, who will leave New Zealand soon to work for the Church Missionary Society in Tanganyika, was bidden farewell at hj service held in St. Mary’s Church, Merivale, recently. The service was conducted by Archdeacon A. C. Purchas, and Archbishop West-Watson gave the address. At the conclusion of the service Mr Wiggins received the Archbishop’s blessing. An informal gathering was later held in the church schoolroom, and Mr Wiggins and his wife gave short addresses. They were presented with a gift contributed by friends and members of the New Zealand Church Missionary Society.
