FRENCH ACTION IN ALGERIA
MEASURES TO QUELL ' REVOLT LONDON. May 31. “More than IttgjjW Arab insurrectionists were klUifttor wounded between May 8 and'lß in stern French counter-measures against a revolt in Algeria," says a delayed dispatch tc the United States Army newspaper “Stars and Stripes’’ from a correspondent in Casablanca. “The French used American aeroplanes to transport Moroccan troopj from Casablanca to help quell disturb* ances in Algeria, while French pilots m American medium and heavy oombert made more than 300 sorties over the hinterland, levelling entire communities. French fighter pilots in Brtttsi aeroplanes followed up the bombers W strafe the fleeing population or dive* bomb Arab strongholds in the mountains." The correspondent adds: "BecftUW of the severe French censorship ant the inaccessibility of the battle ares the true picture of the events anc their causes is so far obscure. "The French have arrested two mei who are alleged to be responsible £0! starting the revolt. After the Alliet landing in North Africa these men, I is stated, formed a political party, de tnanding Algerian independence.**
