Sit Harry Batterbee, retiring High Commissioner in New Zealand for the United Kingdom, Will be entertained by the Mayor of Christchutdh (Mt E. H. Andrews), the JlayorCsS ’ (Miss CoU2irts) t and the j City Council ort TuCsday morning, during his farewell visit to Christchurch. He will be em tertained st dinner by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and the Cam terbury Manufacturers’ Association the sam£ day. Flight Lieutenant B. G. Glover, D.F.C., has returned to Christchurch after sik years’ service with the Royal Ait Force. Among freed prisoners of war who have arrived safely in England is the Rev; John Hiddlestone, a former senior Baptist chaplain to the New Zealand Forces, and minister at the Epsom Baptist Church. He was captured by the Germans on Crete in May, 1941, when he elected to stay behind with the wounded men of the Division. Machin was re-elected chairmart of the North Canterbury Catchment Board at its fitst anhual meeting yesterday afternoon. Mr H. B. Anderson Will take over the Office of treasurer which Mr Machin also held for the first year. Lit F. D, Graht was reelected chairman of the drainage and rivers control committee, and Dr. G, Jobberns chairman of the soil conservation Committee. Mr W. E. Mortimer, South Island manager Of Gordon and Gotch (Australasia), Ltd., Has been appointed anager of the firm’s Wellington ce. He Will be succeeded at Christchurch by Mr K. Blow, of Auckland. Mr J. Grigor, of Christchurch, will succeed Mr Blow at Auckland as magazine department manager, The new general manager of the firm is Mr R. A. Loe, of Auckland.
