FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) THEFT OF SWEETS

Charles Valentine Atkins, aged 59. pleaded guilty- to stealing a quantity, of sweets valued at 30s, the property of Aulsebrook and Company. Ltd;, at Christchurch, on May 31. SenioriDetective F. Sinclair, who prosecuted, said the accused had been employed by Aulsebrook and Company for the last two years. At neon on Thursday he was seen leaving the firm’s premises carrying a sugar-sack, which was found to be half-full of sweets. Similar thefts were prevalent at the company’s factory. Tht accused was convicted and remanded to June 7 for a report by the Probation Officer. FALSE ALARM OF FIRE for giving a false alarm of fire, George Alexander Davis, aged 33, was fined £5, in default 10 days’ Imprisonment. TRAFFIC OFFENCES For failing to give way to traffic approaching from the right, Horace John Albert Barlow was fined £5. Charged with a similar pffence, Arthur William James Plummer was fined 20s. Plufnmer was also fined 5s for having no warrant of fitness for a motor-cycle. Herbert Chester Jones was fined 5s for failing to notify a change in the ownership of a motor-car. A charge- of driving without due care and attention which was brought against Neil John Mallett (Mr R. A. Young) was dismissed.

JUDGMENT BY DEFAULT Judgment by default for plaintiffs for the amounts indicated, was entered in the following cases:— Booth, Macdonald and Company, Ltd. v..S. H. Board, £ll 13s 6d; Booth, Macdonald and Company, Ltd. v. W. A. Robertson, £47 19s. JUDGMENT SUMMONS On a judgment summons, W. J. Bowes was ordered to pay J. Cocks and Son, Ltd., £24 8s 6d forthwith, in default 23 suspended for three days after service of the order on defendant. POSSESSION John Alfred Montgomery was ordered to give possession ol a tenement to the State Advances Corporation of New Zealand on or before June 7, C. Williams was ordered to give Mary Ann Downing possession of a tenement on or before June 26.
