COLONIAL SUGAR COMPANY CRITICISM IN AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) CANBERRA, May 31. The Colonial Sugar Refining Company should be one of the first Industries to be nationalised, the Minister of Labour (Mr E. J. Holloway) told the House of Representatives. The Minister was answering a question on the strike by sugar workers at the company's factory In Victoria He said that the company for many years had possessed a ratfier dubious reputation as a monopoly which was careless of the public interest. A Victorian Labour member said industrlal disputes among sugar workers in Victoria had resulted in shortened supplies so that many people could not obtain refined sugar. He asked the Commonwealth Government to Intervene In the dispute. CUSTOMS RETURNS CHRISTCHURCH FIGURES A large increase in War Expenses Account . taxation revenue more than offset a falling off in the collection of customs duties at Christchurch last month.
