VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 31. The Governor-General and Lady Newall left Wellington this afternoon for Auckland. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on June 8. Mr L. C. Webb, the Director of Stabilisation, has been appointed a wages commissioner under the Economic Stabilisation Emergency Regulations, 1942, according to a notice in last night’s Gazette. —(P.A.) Major G. R. Milward, M.N.Z.1.E.; M.N.Z.1.5.. was appointed engineer to the South Canterbury Catchment Board at a meeting of the board at Timaru on Wednesday. Major Milward. who is at present a member of the New Zealand Engineers and has been engineer to . the Southland County since 1935,' was appointed from' 18 applicants at a salary t of £BOO a year. Group Captain G. A, Nicholls had an unusual interest in the passing out ceremony at Wigram yesterday, for the first pilot to whom he presented wings was his own son, Leading Aircraftman J. R. Nicholls, who had been given a distinguished pass, the only one. of the course. In addition, when Group Captain Nicholls came to present special trophies, there was one of his sons as honours student. Group Captain Nicholls himself was trained at Wigram 28 years ago.
