* STEVENS WINS BOUT M’CANN INJURED IN FIRST ROUND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 21. A professional middle-weight boxing contest between Roy Stevens, of Auckland, and Jack McCann, of Wellington, ended in a disappointing manner-for the large crowd at the Town Hall. In the first round McCann’s right eyebrow was badly cut, first of all by a couple of left hooks, and then through the boxers’ heads coming into collision. Blood ran freely from McCann’s injury, while Stevens’s right eyebrow also showed slight signs of the impact. At the end of the round the referee made an inspection of McCann’s injury, and then called for a doctor. The latter pronounced McCann as being unfit to continue, «nd Stevens was declared the winner.

HANSON BEATS DUNCAN (P.A.) WELLINGTON. May 21. Giving his best display to date. Tommy Hanson (Wellington) lOst 41b outpointed Jack Duncan (Ngaruawahia) lOst 71b, in a professional welter-weight contest staged by the Hutt Valley Boxing Association, before a crowded house at Petone tonight. Duncan, who had an advantage in height and reach, did the leading throughout, but this was counteracted by clever head weaving and effective counter punching by Hanson, who had the better of the in-fighting. The judges disagreed and the referee gave the decision to Hanson. ■
