POWER WORKS STRIKE IN N.S.W. ENDS
(Rec. 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 21. The threat to Sydney’s electricity supply was removed to-day when the striking employees at the Bunnerong power-house returned to work. Trie union leaders recommended that the men should return following the issue of an order under the National Security Regulations by the Federal Government. . , The strike, which had lasted 10 days, also threatened serious trouble on the coalfields and in other industries because the engine drivers and firemen objected to providing power which, they believed, might be ‘fed in” to the Sydney electricity supply area.
Homeservlcemen’s Association. Starting in 1943 with a capital of £2 10s, the Christchurch brarfch of the New Zealand Homeservicemen’s Association had a long struggle for support. but at the end of last year there were 850 members, states the first publication of the branch. A message from Mr D. W. Russell, president of the Christchurch Returned Services Association, wishing the branch success, is contained in the journal.
