NGAI-TAHU CLAIM
Sir,—lt was stated in “The Press” that the Tuahiwi beneficiaries voted in favour of the Government's offer of settlement. For the benefit of those living elsewhere, I wish to state that the voters included non-beneficiaries as well. That being so. it nullifies the obje<|t of the motion. The reporter was not at fault, as he reported correctly. The fault was with the beneficiaries, who should have pointed out the true position there and then. If the Upoko Runanga bad presided it is positive the beneficiaries alone would have had the privilege of voting. It was gleaned from the meeting that the Minister frankly intends to socialise and redistribute, by including nonbeneficiaries. Sound proposals were put forward but were turned down. Everything appeared cut and dried beforehand. We must organise, as there is still one way out of this bother The meeting proved poignant, frustrate, and keenly disappointing.—Yours, etc., W. A. PITAMA. Tuahiwii May 18. 1945.
