INCREASED PAY FOR SOLDIERS
Sir,—Evidently Mr Nash in his recent talks on returned servicemen made a slight mistake. He referred to the “debt which cannot be repaid.” By all accounts he meant the "debt which will not be repaid." Maybe he will be good enough to explain just why he and his colleagues raised the Army pay only for those returning after June 30. I suppose the next thing will be that the gratuity will be payable only to those who returned after a certain date; that is, of course, if it’s 4 paid at all. It seems rather doubtful.— Yours, etc., VOLUNTEER’S WIFE. Hokitika. May 15, 1945.
