Out of Action Foxiana was accepted for In.the Te Rapa Steeplechase to be run on Saturday, but Is not to make the trip, and will also miss the Great Northern Steeplechase meeting. There Is a possibility, however, of getting him right again to race at Trentharo in July. Retired Colonel Rouge broke down at Hawera, and has finished racing. He showed marked ability as a Jumper, but was a difficult horse to keep sound. The Vulture Appeal The appeal of Mr H. E. Martin, owner of The Vulture, against the recent decis- ! slon of the Canterbury District Committee, will be heard by the Racing Conference appeal judges at Wellington next Thursday. Back to Saddle The former Riccarton horseman, R. Beale, now training at Awapunl, will be riding regularly In Jumping events during the winter. Backward Order Findon is to make his reappearance at , Te Rapa to-morrow, but according to a report from Hawke’s Bay he was In a , burly condition when he left Hastings, and Is not likely to do himself Justice ; In his engagement, the Stewards' Handi- : cap Stonyhurst Blood Cricket Ball, which recorded his first 1 win at Te Aroha last week, Is a three- : year-old bay colt by ’Cricket Bat from : Gay Hind by Magnus from Winsome Hind I by The Ace from Wild Hind. Red Hind ' was sold to Mr J. Paterson, owner of '• Surveyor, when in foal to Cricket Bat. ] Albino Favoured Valantua was second with 9-8 in last year’s Great Northern Steeplechase, and 1 followed this up with a win In the Winter , Steeplechase on the second day, and a 1 second in the Wellington Steeplechase with 10-8, collecting in all £IBOO In stakes. : He has 9-10 only in this year’s big event i at Ellerslle. On the other hand. Sir ‘ Percy, winner of £825, has 10-2 and only receives 41b from As Required. When Sir Percy won the Southland Steeplechase - on April 14. he received 151b from Albino (first race 'over country and unplaced), s the weights being 10-2 and 11-3 respec- j lively. At Ellerslle Albino has been al- 1 lotted 9-13, so meets Sir Percy on 181b | better terms. Albino Is in the Te Rapa j Steeplechase to-morrow with 10-0. and * In view of his Ellerslle engagements, his ] form will be of Interest. Albino did well j as a hurdler, winning a race at Trentham . in October under 10-13 by six lengths. • from Golden Tide and Maggiore. \

TROTTING NOTES Jottings At his last appearance at Washdyke Windermere won the Washdyke Trot on the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s programme on April 28. Sunny Glen was also placed at the same meeting. On his best behaviour. Water Banger can go fast. Trained by P. G. O’Reilly at Methven. he won the Stewards’ Handicap at Hawera by six lengths In 4mln 30 4-Ssec. Jack Potts has a good lead in the sires’ list. Up to April 21, his progeny had won 04 races and earned £32,780 In stake money. Gamester, which is engaged at Timaru, is a newcomer to Canterbury. He is by Jack Potts from Muriel de Oro, and at his last start at Hawera he was driven in the Kaponga Handicap by M. B. Edwards. Victory .Loan The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has invested £SOOO in the 1045 Victory Loan. Good Prospects The deletion of the age limit from the 1945 New Zealand Trotting Cup conditions has met with approval, as It means that all the best horses In commission will now be able to compete In the premier event on the trotting calendar. At present there are 20 pacers assessed on 4min 28sec or faster, but this list Includes Warfield and Pacing Power. They both broke down at the Easier meeting, and unfortunately there appears to be little chance of their taking part in the big race. Josedale Grattan, the winner of the 1941 Trotting Cup, is included because his trainer, F. J. Smith, stated at the Easter meeting that this stallion was again to be prepared for racing; and his presence would undoubtedly add Interest to the race. With the addition of horses which should make the grade between now and the time for the taking ofVentrles, a useful field should parade. The following is the list of pacers eligible, with their ages shoWn In parenthesis: 4min 28sec, Warfield (9), Joan Conquest (8) Volo Senwod (5); 4min 27sec, Clockwork (8), Shadow Maid (7), Happy Man (9) Parshall (7): 4min 26sec. Dusky Sound (11), Gold Bar (8). Hardy Dak (8). Indian Clipper (8). Integrity (6), Double Peter (9) 4min 25sec, Loyal Friend (10). Josedale Grattan (9); 4mln 24sec. Loyal Key (10) Countless (8): 4mln 23sec. Bronze Eagle (8). Pacing Power (6); 4min 22sec, Haughty (9), A Good Omen Buster was sent out a good favourite in the Domain Handicap at Forbury Park, and the confident support accorded him suggests that he must have worked well before leaving New Brighton. Buster's chances at Timaru may well be worth a second thought Luck Should Turn The Rakaia-trained Emulous has not had the best of luck in recent months, but his Wellington running showed that he was approaching his best form again. Since then he was taken to Dunedin, but was not raced became of the track conditions, end his next appearance will be in the Beaconsfield Trot at Timaru. The Jack Potts—Light Wings horse takes the eye as one of the best four-year-olds seen out this season. An Improver w;,h six placlngs in his nine starts since he began racing. Gamble King Is one of the most likely improvers about in his class at present. At his first appearance he was fourth in the Hagedorn Handicap at the Westport-Reefton meeting on December 26, and later in the day was successful In the Williams Handicap from Hanover. Taken to Greymouth on December 30. he finished third to Chinook and Woe Peg in the Borough Handicap, and on the same afternoon won the Stewards’ Handicap Trot easily from Quite Evident. Since then he has been placed on two occasions, and his fourth to Fulwood, Leonin, and Atawhero in the Featherston Handicap at Wellington was a good performance. A good beginner, Gamble King Is well placed off the 12yard mark in the Opihj Trot at Timam. and he may take part in the finish. Consistent . . The consistent Heydey continues to gain placlngs without winning a race, and he was beaten by only half a length by Te Taonganul in the Bruntwood Handicap. This made his fifth second placing in his last eight starts. Made the Pace , Special Effort made most of the pace In the Waikaura Trot, but he was stopping in the straight and eventually finished well back in fifth place.
