fflK. 1 S,m.) LONDON. April 19. TO-day’s communique from Supreme flled Headquarters says:— RESISTANCE ENDS IN RUHR "AH organised resistance in the Rubr pocket has -ceased. The Allies hive virtually completed mopping up the last enemy stragglers. HOLLAND “Oar forces advancing from Arnhem occupied Wageningen, 10 miles infest pf Arnhem, and reached the Zuider Zee north of Barneveld. "TTie enemy is offering stiff resistance west of tho Ems river mouth and round the bridgehead, across the Kusten canal. BREMEN, HAMBURG "We captured Vorden (20 miles louth-east of Bremen) and Soltau (W miles south of Hrmburg). We advanced 10 miles north of Schever,dingen and almost cleared Ulzen. We advanced to the outskirts of Luneburg (25 miles south-east of Hamburg), and reached Rosche, eight Biles cast of Luncburg. MAGDEBURG, LEIPZIG “Cvtr forces cleared the part ox Magdeburg west of the Elbe. “Tanks and infantry entered Leipzig and reached the west bank of the Sister canaL "Infantry gained upwards of 12 m; 1 -'. cn a 14-mile front in the Zw:c'*au area (40 miles south of Leipzig) and cleared Lengenfeld and Zwickru. We cleared TTeuen and reached )Vildenfels, six miles southeast of Lengenfeld. CZECH BORDER "Patrols crossed the Czechoslovak border end reached Gottmansgrun, 10 miles east of Hof. We entered Schaarzenbach and Weissenitadt. NUREMBVRG “Our units which entered Nuremburg from the nqrth and east joined up. Elements drove into the city from the south. Resistance decree sed as we knocked out enemy gun positions..' We captured' 1 the suburb of Furth, four miles from the centre of the city, and a nearby airfield. We reached Schwand (11 miles south of Nuremburg). We have almost cleared Ansbach (25 miles south-west of Nuremburg). We reached Horb and captiqftf Freudenstadt and advanced five miles beyond it. , . “Units on the Rhine plain pushed as far south as Dihglingen. . Enemy resistance in Obemrch was overcome..' We silenced long-range guns flrlng.on Strasbourg. GIRONDE ESTUARY "Our forces have cleared the entire north side of the Gironde estuary. The attack continued on the southern side of the Gironde estuary and pushed the enemy to his last defensive position on the Verdon plain. “The Allies on Tuesday took 37,247 prisoners."
