Members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’: Union, in spite ox their supreme war effort, had found time to establish In ■ the South Island two rest homes where those needing a change of environment could be rested In hiind and sajcl Mrs W. Orr, Dominion president, at the official opening 6f Te Kiteroa Best Home at Waimate on Saturday, To-day, as never before, the hand oi compassion and friendship should be extended to- lonely people and sufferers, she said. She hoped the homes would fill a need lh' the Dominion, and congratulated the'Waimate branch of the division on the condition of the grounds at Te Kiteroa. Te Kiteroa, the division’s third rest home in the Dominion, comprises a house of 17 rooms, set in spacious grounds on a hillside overlooking Waimate. Formerly a well-known guesthouse. it was purchased by the division last year and partly furnished. Much equipment has been given- by various branches of the division. At the opening ceremony there was a large attendance. Those'present inspected the home after the opening, Pride In the division’s achievement In purchasing and equipping the homo on a membership fee of 2s od was expressed by Mrs B, E. Evans, of Timaru, chairman of the Te Kiteroa committee. As soldiers in battle were cared for, the division looked after housewives needing rest and help. Historians of the future would recognise the Value 'of the division’s work, which was a source of inspiration to all. Mr D. C. Kidd, M.P.', congratulated the division on providing rest facilities for country, housewives, whose war effort was outstanding. He hoped that Government recognition of the work of women’s organisations would result in the setting up, in the near future of a special ministry for their benefit and help. Other speakers, who joined in congratulating the division, were Mrs A. Kemshed, representing the National Council of Women, Mr A.,E. S, Hanan, Mayor of TimSru, Mr'.J. C. Kirkness, Mayor of Oamaru, Mr John Bitchener, chairman pf the Waimate County .Council, Mr John Dempsey, president of the South Canterbury executive of the Farmers.’ -Union, and Mr A. G. McHardy, representing .the Waimate Borough Council. *
