Members, of the purchasing mission are. Messrs R. j?A. Kosak and Ernst H.Van Someren Gr6V6> At present Messrs Kosak and Greve are on a tour of the . South Island. In an interview in Christchurch yesterday they explained that their stay in New Zealand would be of several months. They were interested in; the purchase of aH types of processed goods and raw materials, particularly secondary produce; for the .relief •ana rehabilitation of the Netherlands East Indies. Their mission was to ascertom the extent to which New Zealand could assist in the relief of the.lndies Mter the Japanese, had been dl M^re U kosai and Greve said that they had received every co-pperation from the Government and the manufacturers of New Zealand. While their mission was r really a survey-of New Zealand industries, they ®ould also place orders for goods: whenever that was found expedient. Actual purchases were ' a matter for Govemmental negotiation. They were particularly Interested in the .purchase of footwear, clothing, household utensils, and farm machinery for the use of the native population of the Netherlands East Indies. Naturally, the possibilities of a post-war exporttrade from New Zealand to the Netherlands East Indies would also be explored. , , ; The Netherlands East Indies had a native population of at least 70,000,000 and a European population of 250,000. and future ' mantets . would depend largely on what exports New Zealand could offer. At present the primary consideration was the relief'- of the Indies; actual- rehabilitation would have to come after, , ’ - Qhi Monday the members of the Netherlands delegation were entertained at. lunch by the, Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association.
