DAMAGED WHEAT
Sir,—With all due deference to Mr McPherson, Wheat Controller, I think his statement is wrong that there has never been any efficient plant in New Zealand for treating damp and sprouted grain. Some 50 to 60 years ago Meeks's mill, in Oamaru, successfully treated, at reasonable' cost, - thousands of bushels of cut-of-condition wheat for the writer'and other growers. A , year or two ago I wrote and told Dr. Hilgehdorf of this, and he found on inquiry that this plant was still in existence. Seeing the serious- damage there is this season to both wheat and potatoes, might I suggest to the con-' troller that say 4s a bushel should be guaranteed for milling oats this coming season to make up the deficiency. Half a loaf is better than no bread is an old ! and true saying.—Yours, etc.,"„,„,, E. C. STUDHOLME. ! Waimate, February 25, 1,945, '——".. ■ ■■' ■
