CROIX DE GUERRE

AWARD TO N.Z. NAVAL OFFICER (P A.) WELLINGTON, February 24. Advice has been received from the New Zealand High Commissioner in London that the French authorities have awarded the Croix de Guerre with a Silver Star to Temporary-Sub-Lieutenant Peter Rynd, R.N.Z.N.V.R.. for service in the clearance of mines from Port Staples. Sub-Lieutenant Rynd was born m Wellington in 1920 and entered the R.N.Z.N.V.R. as a seaman in May, 1937. On October 10, 1939, he transferred to the coder branch and was promoted to temporary - acting - sub - lieutenant (special branch) on November 26, 1943, and later to temporary-sub-lieuten-ant (special branch). Before his entry into the Navy he was a clerk in the Post and Telegraph „ Department at Wellington. His father is Mr E. F. Rynd, of Shannon.
