♦ CONFERENCE HELD AT CHRISTCHURCH
A conference of rural officers of Government departments dealing with rehabilitation and of chairmen of farm rehabilitation sub-committees with the Director of Rehabilitation (Mr F. Baker) was held at Christchurch on Saturday. Mr Baker said afterwards that he was pleased with the conference, which was attended by the chairmen of all sub-committees from Kaikoura to Timaru and on the West Coast. The Rehabilitation Board’s policy and proposals were fully explained and suggestions were brought forward by the local farmers present. He promised that these suggestions for the better working of the scheme would be fully considered and adopted if possible. Other questions considered were the grading of servicemen for farming, the facilities for training servicemen for farming, and administration and advice after men were settled. He had thanked the committees" for the very fine work they were doing. Mr Baker was accompanied by Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P., a member of the board, Mr B. C. McCabe, supervising valuer of the State Advances Corporation for the South Island, Mr D. A. Paterson, of the head office of the Lands and Survey Department, and Mr P. H. Q.
