Leggat (23) and Baxter (13) continued the Innings, and runs came freely, until Baxter was bowled by Gordon for 23. Leggat, who was joined by Anderson, continued to show good form, until,he played an uppish shot off Walter for Candllsh to hold the catch. His 43 runs were made in good style. Hadlee joined Anderson and the pair batted in exhilarating style, the runs being scored at a fast rate. Sharp running between the wickets was another bright feature and the pair added 85 runs in 48 minutes, when Walter claimed Hadlee's wicket Ibw. Anderson continued to bat merrily and his lofty hits to the boundary on the leg side drew frequent applause. Gordon, the slow left-handed bowler, was punished, and at one stage Anderson hit him for four sixes in succession. The innings was declared closed at the tea adjournment. With Anderson 105 not out. Rlccarton-Old Collegians made, a bad start in the second innings to lose four wickets for 12 runs. The match developed Into an interesting duel between _ bowler and' batsman, as Rlccarton tried to avert an outright defeat. The bowling and fielding by Old Boys were good and wickets fell rapidly. Candllsh batted well for his 14, before he was dismissed by Hadlee, Gordon and Bull were together with the score eight for 38, and the pair settled down to play tor time. Their effort was a good one until Gordon, who batted splendidly, was dismissed by Cook for 25. With a few minutes of play lelfe Hamilton, the last man, went to the crease. The finish came in the second to last over for the day, when Hadlee claimed Hamilton’s wicket Ibw and (he side was all out for 71. It was a good finish to a good match. ’Hadlee bowled with great vim and was well supported by Cook and Small, St. Albans continued the innings against Air Force on Hagley No. 3 with th» score 102 for six. Air Force made 140 on the first day. Penllngton (15) carried on to score 38 when the innings was declared closed for nine wickets Watson was in good form with the ball and he obtained some cheap wickets. When Air Force batted the second time the opening batsmen gave the side a good start. Dyhrberg and Dunnet faced Mulcock and McMaster confidently, but Burtt dismissed Dyhrberg for 10. Dunnet followed shortly after when Smith took a catch at mid-off. McMaster was the bowler. ‘ Dunnet batted attractively for his 28 runs. Oliver and Deas appeared to be set for a score, but Burtt, who was getting a lot of spin off the pitch, dismissed both batsmen, the former scoring 10 and the latter 17. White held up the sttack for a while, but Burtt was taking wickets quickly and Air Force was all out for 91. Burtt’s effort was an excellent one, and five of his victims were bowled. St. Albans did not waste any time when they batted, and runs came at a rapid rate. Smith collected three fours in a row off White’s first over, and repeated the performance a few overs later, this time off Watson. O’Brien went when he scored 10, caught Palmer, bowled White. Watson bagged two cheap wickets, but Smith continued to score freely and the first 50 was reached In 37 minutes. Smith, who reached 50 in 42 minutes, was dismissed by White when he had scored 54. It was a bright knock. Crawford and McMaster obtained the necessary runs for an outright win. „ . East Christchurch made 177 on the first day against Sydenham, and the match was continued at Lancaster Park when Sydenham, who lost one for 29, carried on to score 240 for seven declared. Rowe 06) and Smith (7), the not out men, continued the innings and carried the total to 65 when Bisset held a good catch behind the wickets off Kennedy to dismiss Smith for 28. Wilson joined Rowe, and the pair batted confidently against a moderate attack. Rowe went when he had scored 38, Kennedy holding a catch off Marshall. Wilson was quickly into his stride and scored with well placed shots. Reece gave him good support until the latter was bowled by Lohrey for 15. Clarke was next and he quickly reached double figures. When the total reached 175, Clarke mishit a ball from Kennedy and was well caught by Stanley for 40 Wilson, who reached 50, was joined by McKay and the pair added runs at a faster rate. Wilson’s sound knock concluded when he reached 62, Bisset whipping the bails off for a neat stumping. The innings was declared closed at 240 for seven. McKay was not out with 35 batted again and lost two wickets lor 40 runs when played ceased, Sydenham obtaining a win on the first Innings.
