FREE KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION
The monthly meeting of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association was held at the rooms, Cashel street. The president, Mrs H. T. J. Thacker, presided, and there was a large attendance of local committee members. The principal, Miss R. Wilkie, reported that a new kindergarten at Beckenham had been opened m the Methodist Church, Martin avenue. Twenty-nine children were enrolled on the first morning with Miss Joy White as director. , Hillmorten began the new year under the directorship of Miss Margaret Ell with a full roll number and a waiting list, and Linwood started with a roll number of 60 and a long waiting list; North Beach had a roll of 25. Nuffield opened under a new director, Miss Margaret Gardner-Miller. There was a roll of 60 and many on the waiting list. Phillipstown had a roll of 60 children; Redcliffs began with 50 children on the roll and a waiting list. From Richmond, many from the top class of last year had entered primary school and with the enlargement of the building many new pupils had been enrolled. Riccarton' opened with a good attendance. Selwyn had a roll number of 50 and an additional afternoon group. Sunbeam had a long waiting list, Sydenham Had 60 pupils, and although many from Woolston had gone to a primary school, their places were already filled.
