WAIMATE FARMERS’ UNION
INCREASED WHEAT. SOWINGS Satisfaction with the results obtained by publicity about the necessity for increased sowings of wheat was expressed by Mr W. J. Fletcher at a recent meeting of the Waimate Farmers’ Union, Because farmers had been busy. he said. a meeting held at Waihao Downs had been poorly attended; but already he had heard that one farmer intended next year to sow 250 acres in wheat on land that had not .grown wheat for A mentioned the intention of the sowing of 100 acres at Waihaorunga under similar circumstances. After a brief discussion initiated by Mr J. Barclay about the imposition of fob charges by merchants on whaaj sent to store when such charges had not been incurred, the meeting decided to seek information from the wheat representatives of the branch. Mr Fletcher said he did not think any change could be made withoucausing complications. The practice had been, adopted to bring about a universal rate of payment. . • Complaint about the delay in carrying the rural housing scheme into effect was made by Mr J. Barclay. He said he had written to the State Housing authorities, receiving m reply an undertaking that immediate attention would be given, but nothing had been An assurance that the matter would not be overlooked by the Primary Production Council was given by Mr Fletcher, who said that alarm bod been expressed by members at the lack of Pr Mr e A.'J. Mcßae was elected to the provincial commodity committee as a representative of market gardeners and small fruit growers., , Mr John Dempsey was re-elected to the Waimate Rehabilitation Committee. -
