BARGE REFLOATED
♦ SALVAGE OF DERELICT VESSEL
(P.A.) DARGAVILLE, December 20. The United States Army oil barge, which recently drifted ashore on the North Auckland coast, was successfully refloated yesterday morning. The highlight of the refloating was a swim of half a mile through the surf by the chief executive officer of a naval vessel to make contact between his ship and the barge. During the launching of the barge, Sam Bell, a rigger, of Herne Bay, was struck on the head by a swinging winch handle. After receiving treatment at the Te Kopuru Hospital he was able to return to the scene of the launching. By 11 a.m. the barge vjas in tow. and, accompanied by a naval vessel, started on its trip to Auckland.
