Sir Harry Batter bee. High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, and Lady Batterbee, who. in view of the paper shortage, are this year again making a donation to patriotic funds instead of sending Christmas cards, desire to express to all their friends in New Zealand their best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
The Ardagh prize for the best final year medical student at the Christchurch Hospital has been awarded this year to Dr. J, W. Ardagh, only son of Brigadier P. A. Ardagh, in whose memory the prize was presented by the Canterbury Park Trotting Club. The Dannevirke Hospital Board has appointed Dr. E. H. Clarke,'who was recently acting-medical superintendent of the Nelson Public Hospital, to be medical superintendent of the Dannevirke Public Hospital in succession to Dr. John Beedie, who has resigned from the position, —(P.A.) Mr J, E. Thomas, who is retiring from the position of Fqod and Rationing Controller in Wellington, was given a farewell social by the head office staff, recently. Mr 'Thomas will make his home in the South Island. Mr E. O. Schnack, who has retired from the staff of the Shirley School to take up a position at the Wanganui Intermediate School, was entertained by the committee of the Shirley School at a social evening last week. The Invercargill staff of Sargood. Son, and Ewen met to bid farewell to Mr P. B. Witt, the former manager, on the eve of his departure for Christchurch and to welcome his successor, Mr R. McClean. Mr J. E. Thomson outlined Mr Witt’s activities during his long association with the Invercargill branch and congratulated him on his success'as manager. All members of the staff wished Mr Witt success in his new position, after which he was presented with a leather folio case.
