TRAMP FROM WELLINGTON TO NEW PLYMOUTH

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 20. Robert Jensen, aged 21, of Wellington, won a wager of £7O with three relatives, by walking from Wellington to New Plymouth, a distance of about 226 miles, in four, days, 12i hours. The terms of the wager were that he was to cover the distance in five days two hours or less; failing that he would have to pay £25 to the R.N.Z.A.F. and £lO to a private cause. Jensen, an aytique dealer, is a slightly-built man weighing Bst 21b. He had only three hot meals on the trip, two of which were breakfasts. The first night he slept in the open at Otaki. To comply with the terms of the wager Jensen sent daily telegraphic reports of his progress to the Mayor of New Plymouth (Mr Gilmour).
