TRENDS
Sir,—l think : your returned soldier correspondent who signs himself “Disillusioned" is quite unnecessarily alarmed about present political trends. When the lights went out for Liberalism, some other movement ing freedom and justice was bound to take its place. The so-called Communism of the Continent generation ago was plain anarchy, with, murder, free love, and robbing as its chief principles; and the ’party%as largely composed of the political • roughs and toughs of the; various countries. This made Commuhisih stink in the nostrils of all decent men;, but the modified form adopted in both Russia ahd a large part of China is achieving astonishing success. Even if they do call themselves Communists, I see no reason why the Greek patriots should be denounced as rebels because they object to a king who is German in breed and sympathy.—Yours, etc.,
