Opossum Menace.— Opossums are becoming a menace in the Greymouth district and linesmen of the Grey Power Board are finding it difficult to cope with their interference to the power supply. The increase of opossums is said to be caused by the cessation of trapping activities during the war and the abundance of food. The Minister of Internal Affairs is considering the removal of the protection accorded tne opossum, while, in the meantime, occupiers of property suffering damage from opossums may be granted authority to protect their property. Discharge of Trade Waste.—An. inspecter’s report “with reference to tne unsatisfactory conditions existing in the discharge of trade waste from the Davis (N;Z.) Gelatine works” was discussed in committee by the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening. A motion to take the discussion m committee was opposed by Mr F. Robinson and Mr J. S. Barnett, the latter stating that the particular industry had often been dealt with in open meeting by the City Council. When the board resumed business in open meeting, Mr Barnett moved that a conference be arranged with the proprietors of the company and other industries in the area to discuss the problem. His motion w.y carried.
