Sir Howard Florey, Professor of Pathology at Oxford University, accompanied by Dr. L, C. , Director of Hospitals for the Health Department, arrived from the south yesterday. In the afternoon Sir Howard Florey visited the Christchurch Hospital, where he showed a film on the technique of using penicillin. In the evening he addressed the Canterbury branch of the British Medical Association. He will leave for Wellington by air this morning.
Mr J. W. Frater. chairman of the Auckland Stock Exchange resigned yesterday .because of ill health. —(P.A.) Appreciation of the long services of Mr H. C. Govan as a member of the council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association was expressed at the annual meeting of the association last evening.
Senior-Detective H. E. Knight, who has been stationed at Greymouth for the last 10 years, has received notice of his transfer to Nelson as senior sergeant.
Mr D. V, Wilson was re-elected president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association at the annual meeting last evening, Messrs W. A. Bascand and B. J. Masters were elected vice-presidents. Members elected to the council of the association were Messrs E. A. Adams, A. E, Bartrum, E T. Beaven, J. Bradley, J. S. Connell, D. S. Dott, H. R. Lake, T. H. Lawn, F. N. Lawrence, H. Lee, W. A Pattison, C. S. Peate, F. C. Penfold, W H. Price, W. H. Schroeder, L. B. Stevens, S. Taylor, J. W. Thomas, T. L. Uren, and H. C. Urlwin.
