BRITISH NAVAL STRENGTH
TRANSFER TO FAR EAST (8.0. W.) .RUGBY, Oct. 27. The First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr A. V, Alexander) has sent a special message of greeting to the United States Navy on behalf of the Royal Navy to mark the transference of the main British naval effort to the Far East. The message says:— “The year has witnessed further notable triumphs by the two navies in close collaboration. The successful assault upon the coasts of Normandy and the subsequent support of the Allied armies in France are specially memorable among their joint achievements. "It is very fitting that the news of the great victory off the Philippines comes on the eve of Navy Day. "As the war in Europe draws to its close the Royal Navy makes readv to transfer its main effort to the Far East and, in the spirit of the recent Quebec Conference, it looks forward to further fruitful co-operation in that theatre.” “It is not generally realised what a large change-over to new types of production is going on in Britain'to seal the doom of Japan.” said the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Production (Mr G. Jones) in a speech. "Amongst the equipment specially designed to withstand heat and humidity being produced for the Far East campaign are new amphibian and landing craft, lighter weapons, a wider range of new radio equipment, and vast quantities of special clothing and medical stores.”
