USE OF IRON
* RECENT COURT CASES STATEMENT BY BUILDERS’ FEDERATION Statements reported to have been made during the hearing of charges, in the Magistrate’s Court in Christchurch, against several builders, alleged to have used their own galvanised iron for the manufacture of spouting, were discussed at a recent meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Master Builders’ Federation. ' The following statement was issued after the meeting by the secretary of the federation (Mr W. J. Mount joy) “In view of .the unfair statements that were published in relation to the Commissioner of Works (Mr . James Fletcher), my executive decided that some action should be taken,'and it was unanimously resolved that this federation dissociate itself from the suggestions made that Mr James Fletcher had anything to do with the bringing down of the regulations prohibiting the use of galvanised iron. “This association (the New Zealand Federated Builders’ and Contractors’ Industrial Association of Employers) is, however, of the opinion that persons, other than merchants, holding stocks of. their own galvanised iron, should be permitted to use it for the making of spouting, down-pipes, ridging, etc., which are urgently needed for use in the erection of State and other dwelling houses which are in short supply. ,
