FINNS AND GERMANS CLASH
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON. Sept. 23 “It is clear that the Germans in north Finland are not withdrawing within the specified time.” says a Finnish communique. “Strong German detachments have occupied the Line-Sntkamo -’rea and the region to the north. Finish troops attacked them. The Germans mined the roads and destroyed bridges.”
American Artists’ War-time Service,— “The enclosed portrait of one close to you comes us a gift from a group of artists ana illustrator? who are working under the sponsorship of the New Rochelle Art Association at the Masonic Service Centre, New York, ’ stated the letter accompanying this portrait of Ordinary Seaman P. J. Beaven received recently by his parents, Mr and Mrs E. T. Beaven. Christchurch. “We hope you will enjoy this graphic reminder of your representative in the armed forces . . . and that it will continue to afford a large measure of satisfaction in the years of peace to come.” The artists give their time and talent and the association meets the costs of mounting and mailing from its own funds. This is one of the many kindly services provided by Americans for Allied servicemen and their relatives.
