BAN ON GERMAN SHIPS

SWEDISH ACTION IRON ORE EXPORTS TO CEASE (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 24. Swedish exports of iron ore to Germany will be brought to a standstill and German and Swedish commerce generally reduced to practically nothing as the result of the Swedish decision to forbid German ships to use Swedish territorial waters and ports along the entire southern and eastern coasts of Sweden from Falsterbo to the Finnish-Swedish border. Reuter’s Stockholm correspondent says that the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Guenther) yesterday informed the German Minister (Dr. Hans Thomsen) that the decision would be effective from next Wednesday. The territorial waters on the west coast are already mined and therefore are unusable. The only facility remaining for German ships is the right to call at a few west coast ports such as G'oteborg and Malmo. Even ferry traffic between Trelleborg and Sassnitz will be stopped. The decision is believed to ‘be attributable to the Swedish desire* to avoid complications in the event of the Russian Fleet breaking out into the Gulf of Finland and sinking German ships in Swedish territorial waters.
