POLISH ARMY COMMANDER
CABINET CALLS FOR RESIGNATION . (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON. Sept. 23. • “The Polish Cabinet yesterday unanimously passed a resolution requesting President Raczkiewic to call for the resignation of the Commander-in-Chief (General Sosnkowski)," says Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent. “President Raczkiewic is expected to agree to the Cabinet’s request. “The Cabinet’s action brings to a head the political crisis which arose when General Sosnkowski without consulting the Government issued an order of the day criticising the assistance the Allies had given to the Polish home forces in Warsaw.” . HEAVY FIGHTING IN SLOVAKIA TROOPS’ MESSAGE TO ALLIED LEADERS (8.0. W.) RUGBY, Sept. 23. A Czechoslovak communique reports heavy fighting in the areas of Handlova, a coal mining centre in Slovakia, 30 miles south of Vrutky and Svaty M?rtin. The Czechoslovak Government has forwarded to Mr Churchill, Mr Stalin, Mr Roosevelt, General de Gaulle, and Marshal Chiang Kai-shek the following message from Czechslovak troops and partisans in Slovakia; “The fight in Slovakia has opened a new front for the Germans in tjie very heart Of Eurone. To this front the .Germans are forced to send divisions they urgently need at the western, eastern, and southern fronts. Thus the rising in Slovakia hss linked up with the offensive by the heroic Soviet, British, American, and French allies, with whom the Czechoslovak Army in Slovakia will soon join in driving the defeated German armies back to Berlin.” Another message has been sent to Marshal Broz.
