AUCKLAND, Sept, k A member of New Zealand’s delega- '* tion to the international monetary con-' / ference held at Bretton Woods, Nett Hampshire, last July, Mr E[. C. Fussell, U. deputy-governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, has returned to Auck* - land by flying-boat from Sydney. He 1. stated that he could not comment on the conference at this juncture. Travelling mostly by air, Mr Fussell visited England, India, and Australia - on central banking business after the conference in the United States. He has been away from New Zealand for., three months. ; “Hitler would be very much abashed . -, to see how undimmed Londoners’ courage is by flying-bombs-’-doodle-bugs, as they call them,” said Mr Fussell, who was in London during the attacks and saw the flying projectiles on sev- ' eral occasions. He acted as a spotter on the roof of a London building twice during his visit The people in Lon-- , don were healthy, cheerful, and reso-. lute, he said. . ... ■'■■■■ Mr Fussell is one of the few civilian passengers who have flown over the new Empire route between Colombo, Ceylon, and Australia, a 3500-mile non- . stop flight, which he made on his return. According to an announcement made early lasl month, the service over this route has been operated iw more than a year by Qantas Empire , Airways (Australia).
