FIRE SUPERINTENDENT HONOURED
40 YEARS’ SERVICE AT LYTTELTON On Saturday night Superintendent R. Carson, of the Lyttelton Volunteer Pire Brigade, was entertained by members of the brigade at a picture evening at the local theatre followed by supper at the fire station. The occasion was the completion by Mr Carson of 40 years service in the brigade. , In his 40 years, Mr Carson has the distinction of having been present at 1078 parades of a possible 1120. He joined the brigade on March 8, 1904. as a messenger. In turn he served as fireman, secretary, and foreman, and on February 13, 1929, he was appointed superintendent in succession to hjs brother, Mr W. G. Carson. He has led the brigade at several big fires, including the Christmas Eve fire of 1942, and the oil tank fire a few years ago. At supper at the fire station Mr Carson was presented with an electric reading lamp, the gift of members -of the brigade, by Deputy-Superintendent A. Wyatt. The Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), and several members of the brigade spoke of Mr Carson’s valuable services to the town. ■ ,
