PLANS FOR AFTER THE WAR
STATIONS IN MAIN CENTRES

The Government has under consideration proposals for the establishment of television in the four main centres after the war. The stations will have a radius of 20 miles. The information that the Government had television under consideration was given by the Minister in charge of Broadcasting (tiie Hon. F. Jones) when the House of Representatives was considering the broadcasting vote to-day. Answering questions about the largo reserves being built up by thp department. Mr Jones mentioned some of the reasons why the reserves would be needed. He said the preliminary estimates for a television service in the four main centres showed that the cost of the stations would be £2,330,000, annual depreciation £548,000, technical services £94,000 a year, and programmes £873,000 a year. They were not going to do that on 25s a year.
