PETROL FOR VICTORY CELEBRATIONS

PROSPECTS “ NOT GOOD ” (P.A.) WELLINGTON. September 22. In an urgent question in the House of Representatives this morning Mr A. J. Murdoch (Opposition, Marsden) asked the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G'. Sullivan) whether he would instruct the Oil Fuel Controller to make provision for the issue of extra petrol on the day the war with Germany ends to enable country residents to travel to the nearest centre for the celebrations, and return to their homes without having to use coupons or special allowances provided for essential running. Mr Sullivan said the Controller was already making an examination of the possibility of granting extra petrol for the celebrations, whenever they might be held, but he wished to make it clear that the position regarding petrol for such a purpose was not good. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser); We might celebrate by reducing it. Mr W. S- Gopsman (Qpposition, Waikato): That is npt a very nice thought. Mr Fraser: Victory may bring morg tankers.
