DESTRUCTION OF IDEAS

. Sir, —Broadcast speakers frequently proclaim the necessity for the utter destruction of Nazism and National Socialism in Germany. Ideas cannot be utterly destroyed except by the destruction of those who hold them, and some of the ideals contained in the original platform of National Socialism met with a good deal of approval m Britain and elsewhere. It is true that military ambition and the influence of big business vitiated the whole plan and produced the most vicious'system that Europe has seen. Yet if Germany is to make any amends for the evil that she has wrought, her abihties, technical, scientific, and administrative, must be utilised by the- Allies in the rebuilding of Europe. Otherwise, idleness and despair may breed some disease of the mind worse than National Socialism. Let us also remember that there are some things in our own civilisation that ought to be destroyed.— Yours, etc., REALIST. - September, 22, }fl4i ___ . —■
