FOOTBALL

ASSOCIATION CODE

TEAMS FOR SATURDAY

Two excellent matches will be played at English Park on Saturday in aid of the patriotic funds. In the first game two old rivals will meet. ' Thistle and Western. Thistle won the Hurley Shield championship this season, and Western won the English Cup knockout competition. Saturday’s early match will be for the Charity Cup. Thistle will probably field the following team:—J. Mallia; J. Anderson or E. Harwood; D. Gowans; B. Green, A. Sutherland, J. White, G. McMenamin, J. O’Rawe, G. Grice, E, Hall and B. O’Rawe. West-, era’s team will be: A. Laing; G. Graham, S. Cawtheray; C. Anderson, M. Gordon, G. Roberts; M. Stanley, J. Draker, G. Smith, J. Smith, R) Dowker. In the main attraction Delta Air Force will play the combined Christchurch Air Forces. , Delta has a particularly good side —already it has had a win and a draw against a combined Wellington eleven, and a win against Nelson. The Christchurch Air Force side is a particularly strong one, having a win and a draw to its credit against Western. Having a sound defence in McNaughton (Canterbury representative). Hamilton, and F. Richards (of Western), and a goalscoring forward line with Moyle, Hayden and Cunningham to the fore, the local eleven should fully extend the visitors. The selector for the combined services team to play Metropolitan on the following Saturday will announce his team after this match, and in spite of strong claims from the Navy and Army, Air Force should be well represented. The teams will be:

Delta.—G. Carrol; R. Blazey, M. Friedberg: E. Vaney (captain), A. Cook. E. Pattinson; F. Ling, M. Swain, A. Wilkinson, T. Young, F. Nauman. Emergency: A. Tronson.

Air Force.—J. Maljia; J. McNaughton, R. Hamilton; A. Dimmock, F. Richards, K. Bate; J. Billcliff, F. Moyle, A. Hayden, D. J. Cunningham (captain), J. McCormick. Emergencies; Pocock, Carr, Trosk.
