RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF WAIMAIRI CLUB
The question of the re-establishment of the Walmairi Surf . Club, which was-tem-porarily disbanded because of loss of membership through the war, was discussed, at a meeting of the Canterbury Surf Life-saving Association this week. The president (Mr G. D. Griffiths) said that the Waimarii Progress League was making efforts at the prese'nt time to improve the beach reserve for the benefit of the public, and it felt that the reestablishment of a surf club would be very helpful to the plan. As far as he knew there were no former members of the Walmairi Surf Club available, said Mr Griffiths, but it might be possible for some members of the other clubs to Join together and re-establish the club in the meantime. A similar scheme had been adopted in Auckland, and had proved successful. If would be essential to have the beach properly patrolled, however, as the public would go down to the beach as soon as it heard that the club - had been reformed, and if anybody got into difficulties the surfmen would be blamed. . . On the suggestion of the secretary (Mr G. W. Rundle), it was decided to circularise the clubs, so that it could be fully discussed-at the annual meeting of the association. , ' _. * Advice was received from the Christchurch City Council that provision has again been mdde in its annual estimates for a grant of £125 towards the maintenance of beach patrols.
