WRESTLING

REFEREE UNABLE TO CONTINUE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. September 4. The professional heavy-weight wrestling contest at the Town Hall this evening between Lofty Blomfield and Ken Kenneth had a sensational ending. After each man had secured- a fall, Kenneth floored his opponent with three flying tackles in the seventh round. As he launched the fourth charge. Blomfield dropped to the mat and Kenneth hurled through the ropes, taking the referee (Mr Ray Allen) with him. The referee struck his head so heavily on landing that he was unable to return to the ring.

Mr j. W. Hughes, secretary of the Wellington Wrestling Association, then announced: ’’As the referee is unable to resume, I take it upon myself to declare this a no decision contest.” The bout was the best seen in Wellington for some years.
