PRICE ORDER FOR FISH
RECOMMENDATIONS MADE BY TRIBUNAL After full investigation the Price Tribunal has made recommendations regarding the issue of a price order for fish in Christchurch. These are now being considered by other interested authorities. This information is given by a member of the Price Tribunal (Mr H. L. Wise), in reply fo a letter to “The Press” by Faith E. Barnsley, who asked why there was no price order for fish in Christchurch or in the South Island. At present Auckland and Wellington are the only centres where the price of fish has been fixed by the Price Tribunal. “To-day’s post presented me with ‘The Housewives’ Guide,’ a very informative little booklet, the sponsors being the ‘Economic Stabilisation Commission.’ who, I take it. are the official authorities,” said the correspondent in her letter. “A deal of the information contained therein is, of rourse, very much known to us, manageresses of household domestic establishments on basic wage incomes. Please tell me this: (1) Why is there no price order for fish in Christchurch or the South Island for that matter? (2) Is Christchurch exempted from a fish order price? (3) If so. for what reason. (4) Do you not think an open investigation of the monopoly control is long overdue, and that the consuming public are very patient?"
