INCREASED PENSIONS

Sir. —Regarding the increased pensions, I was very disappointed that nothing had been done about the old age pensions, more so in the case of widows and single men and women and widowers, as it is much harder for a single person than for 'a married couple. We have to pay rents, electric light, gas. coal and wood, food and clothes. The rents, firing, and light are only the same cost for two, but the single person has all the expense, and no more than half what the married people get. It is very hard to manage on what we get, especially in the winter. I am sure if the late Mr Savage had been alive he would have thought of the old people as well as the children.—Yours, etc.. WIDOW PENSIONER. August 7, 1944.
