Miss Margaret Reid, of Auckland, has been repatriated to Britain in the Swedish ship Drottingholm. She was staying in France when the Germans overran the country. She was interned and later sent to a camp at Vittel. At present she is staying with friends near Liverpool.—London, August 11. Twenty British wives and children of New Zealand servicemen have arrived in New York from England on their way to New Zealand. —New York, August 12.' Mrs B. H. Gilmour presided at the monthly committee meeting of the Lyttelton branch of the Plunket Society. Nurse Chapman’s report for Lyttelton is as follows:—visits to Plunket rooms: adults 73, babies 61, pre-school children 10, new cases 5. Homes visited totalled 41. The district convention of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union will be held in Christchurch next month. This was announced at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the union at which Miss C. Henderson presided. Remits to the N.Z Alliance meeting to be held in Wellington shortly were read by the president.

“Drama and its Relation to Religious Teaching" was the subject of an address given by the Rev. Dr. Lan Fraser to members of the Christchurch branch of the Presbyterian Youth Workers' Training Class and delegates from the Presbyterian Sunday School Teachers’ Union.

Mrs J. Mann was recently bidden farewell by members of the Akaroa Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild at their annual meeting. Mrs A. W. Aitchison, on behalf of members, presented Mrs Mann with a posy and a book. The Rev. J. Mann has been called to the Kaikoura Presbyterian Church. The following officers were elected: Mrs A. W. Aitchison (president); Mesdames A. F. C. Williamson and T. H. Morcom (vice-presidents). About 600 members of the armed forces were entertained at the Welcome Club during the week-end. On Saturday, afternoon tea and tea were provided and served by the Rangi-ruru Old Girls’ Association. Supper was served by Alumni of the Home Science School, Otago University. The Soldiers’ Social Club served afternoon tea, and supper yesterday. A concert programme was presented by the Centennial Harmonica Band, conducted by Mrs I. M. Anderson.
