U.S. TRUCK DRIVERS’ STRIKE
—* GOVERNMENT SEIZES COMPANIES
(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 12. The Government has seized 103 MidWestern truck companies affected by the strike of 25,000 drivers, appointed a Federal manager, and ordered all the men to return to work immediately to avert a traffic bottleneck which is rapidly endangering the movement of military supplies. The drivers struck after the companies had refused to pav the seven cents an hour increase ordered by the War Labour Board. The companies claimed that they could not afford the increase unless they were financially relieved by the Government, The Office of Defence Transportation is paying the increase.
Mussolini at the Official German Overseas News Agency says it is announced in Venice that Mussolini has joined his fighting troops at the front.—London, August 12.
