♦ MORE BIRTHS THIS YEAR A big increase in the number of births notified in Christchurch in May, compared with May, 1943, is shown in the monthly return of vital statistics issued by the Registrar of Births. Deaths, and Marriages at Christchurch. The increase in births this year is most marked, representing nearly 300 in the five months. < Detailed figures are as follows, those in parenthesis being the comparative figures for 1943: May.—Births. 268 (201); deaths. 176 (160); marriage notices, 107 (96); marriages by registrar. 22 (22). Five Months.—Births, 1386 (1095); deaths, 719 (690); marriage notices, 581 (530); marriages by registrar, 94 (113).
