VICEREGAL (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 81. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall), and Lady Newall this afternoon left for Wellington. They will return to Auckland on Sunday morning. Mr lan Coster, who was on the staff of “The Press” and the Auckland “Sun” before joining the “Evening Standard” in London, is now editing “SEAC,” ,an official paper of the South East Asia Command. “SEAC” is being produced in the offices of the Statesman.” in Calcutta.—(F.O.C.), London. The retirement of Mr J. H. Jerram, general manager of the State Fire and Accident Insurance Office, was announced yesterday by the Minister in charge of the department, the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer. Mr Jerram’s administrative service covered a period of great expansion in the activities and progress of both the fire and accident branches. As elected member representing the Public Service, Mr Jerram has served continuously on the Public Service Superannuation Board since 1922, and since 1927 has been Government representative on the Public Service Appeal Board. Mr Nordmeyer also announced that Mr A. R. Newbold has been appointed to succeed Mr Jerram as general manager of the State Fire and Accident Insurance Office.—(P.A.) In the work of salvaging strategic materials, Mr J. B. Lymburn, retiring Controller of Salvage, has given most valuable service to industry and to New Zealand, said speakers at a farewell function in Wellington recently. Mr Lymburn was praised for his energy and enthusiasm and it was said that during the two years in which he had held the position the number of voluntary salvage committees had increased from 78 to 136. Last year the National Council for the Reclamation of Waste Materials had had the best year since the inception of the salvage campaign, in that more material was salvaged and more money obtained for the patriotic funds. Although he is relinquishing the post of Controller of Salvage, Mr Lymburn will still be associated with this work, and he' will serve the National Reclamation Council in a voluntary and consultative capacity.
