Road and Rail Block.— As a result of heavy rain, slips near three tunnels blocked the railway between Wairoa and Napier and the line is expected to be ou. of commission for several days. North-bound passengers had to be held at Napier overnight. Meantime, a railcar service is operating on the WairoaGisborne section, on which there are minor slips. The Napier-Wairoa road and the Gisborne-Wairoa inland and coast roads arc blocked, hampering traffic.—(P. A.) American Boxer Beaten. —After outboxing his opponent in the first two rounds, the American. Billy Strauss, was beaten by a technical knock-out in the sixth round of a professional contest with A 1 Stock. Auckland, on Monday night.
